What is THE RIG?
Proclaimed to be representative of the sustainably economic growth of Saudi Arabia, The Rig is a destination on the sea which is designed to be a pinnacle of creativity and inspiration consisting of three hotels, world-class restaurants, helipads and more.
The Rig is part of several giga-projects, tourist destinations and economic landmarks that seek to separate the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia from a traditional dependency on Oil.
The Rig consists of several interconnected platforms, with world-class facilities and opportunities for adventurous activities such as bungee jumping, base jumping and more. The official figures state the rig is to be 300,000+ square meters. This includes 3 hotels, 800 rooms and 11 restaurants. Alongside these, and the aforementioned extreme sporting opportunities, The Rig has a number of swimming pools, water slides, and initial designs even promise a Ferris wheel, submarine rides, and the opportunity to dive around the restored oil rig.
A huge resort-destination such as this, housing so many people, demands high-quality safety solutions. This is compounded by its unique destination. Coastguard teams and maritime agencies need to be prepared for all manner of emergencies.
Giga-project safety is one of the key topics which will be discussed at the Fire Middle East Conference, featuring decision-makers in the region discussing the responses local authorities will have to take, and whether or not fire and safety protocols are correctly scaling with the giga-project development of the Saudi Vision 2030 initiative.
